When you buy your make-up on the back of the box or container there is a drawing of a small jar with the lid opened. It should have a number with an M next to it. Like this 12M This means once the product has been exposed to air it is only good for 12 months. Each product has it's own exp. Date. You can smell it when its bad. If your lip sticks or glosses smell like crayons ditch em. When you mascara is sticky or smells like chemicals toss it. Other then that follow the little cartoon on the package. These are regulated by the FDA and are on all cosmetic products.My Mom said that make-up only lasts 6 months is it true?
no minerals actually preserve makeup the main reason that you should change your makeup every six months is bacteria...thats why you can ';smell'; it, but truely you want to throw it before it goes bad. Acne is from bacteria that get in your pores and inflame them so why would you want to risk putting bacteria on your face or eye area willingly!

no. depends on the type and brand of makeup. better, more expensive brands last longer. mascara doesn't last as long as pencil eyeliner, ect. i wouldn't keep any makeup past a year
