My mom says raisins are toxic to dogs. true or false?

Very true.

Grapes and raisins can cause kidney failure in dogs. As little as a single serving of raisins can kill a dogMy mom says raisins are toxic to dogs. true or false?

My mom says raisins are toxic to dogs. true or false?
Yes partially, but raw meat on it own all the time won't be good all the time. Also note; the high protein of kangaroo meat can cause kidney failure if feed too often.its fine if fed occasionally! 2 different Vets told me this.Also remember the beta carrotine in carrots can cause the coat to turn orange in colour if they have too much!

Dogs are actually Omnivorous.they need alot less meat protein then cats, ferrets or snakes %26amp; feeding a high animal protein diet to a dog will take a toll on the dog's health.a dog is designed to to digest a wide range of plant and animal products.Dog's must eat more then muscle meat.they need plenty of carboyhdrates %26amp;fibre from vegetable matter and only a very small amount of fat.there protein can come from both plant and animal products.the other things to consider are sources of mineral such as calcium, phosphorous and of cause vitamins.

Dogs are they Carnivores? Are they really like wolves, hyenas, jackals? or Are they more like us? Is it foolish to feed them only meat? Should they be fed what there human family eats? The Truth encompasses a little of each.

In the wild, other hunting animal that seem similar to dogs, such as Wolves, hyenas eat fruit,leaves,grasses,dig for roots and even obtain vegetable matter from the stomach of their prey.';

Cooked grains are nearly 100% digestible for dogs. There really isn't a

lot of question about this based on the results of feeding studies. I am not

sure why people come to the conclusion that grains are not good for

dogs.

Food that dog's should avoid

Chocolate; the toxic compound in chocolate causes nervous system excitment which may lead to seizure, cardiac arrhythmias %26amp; death.

Onion, leeks, garlic, chives

Dogs are extremely sensitive to onion toxicity so its best to avoid feeding onion in any quanttities. Onions cause a particular type of anaemia due to damage to the red blood cells.

Other allium species such as leek, chives %26amp; garlic can be toxic but only in large amount. which is why it is safe to use a litle garlic in some of the recipies in this book.

Grapes

Grapes%26amp; raisins have recently been found to cause vomiting, shaking %26amp; renal failure.there toxic properties have not been fully examined.Meanwhile its best not to feed them in any amount.

Corn cobs

Corn cobs especially those divided into smaller pieces, can be lethal to dogs. It is not that the sweet corn is toxic in anyway,but the fact that dogs can swallow them whole.the cob becomes lodge in the intestines of the poor %26amp; has to be removed surgically.

Cooked Bones

Please don't feed cooked bones to your dog or cat.they are very likely to splinter %26amp; the sharpend can become lodge anywhere from the back of the mouth to the large intestines.

Raw bones are an excellent source of calicum %26amp; are far less likely to become stuck

true,,,as are grapes, i asked the vet about this after getting the mass email about it. it is a chemical in them,,and raisins are worse than grapes, and like chocolate it depends on the dogs size and the amount eaten. raisins are worse due to the fact of being dried and being more concentrated.
true.. so are grapes.

The chemical in raisins and grapes is yet unknown.. the amount of toxity is also unkown, some dogs have had alot of grapes with no effect, and some dogs became seriously ill after only eating a few.

Best bet.. dont feed raisins or grapes.
Mom is correct =)

';Contain an unknown toxin, which can damage the kidneys.';
