My mom said you only sleep for a few minutes each night, is this true?

It feels like I dream all night but my mother says you only sleep just a few minutes the whole time you're asleep. Is that true?My mom said you only sleep for a few minutes each night, is this true?
Sleep is categorized into various slow waves %26amp; REM sleep

REM occurs for 5-20mins at a time and approx. 5-8 times a night.

REM is essential for that 'rested' feeling when u wake up which is paradoxical since it is not slow wave at all - your brain actually appears to be 'awake' when recorded by the EEG (a device used to measure brain activity)

Deep sleep is the slowest of the waves, but if u only have this w/o sufficient REM u will wake up 'unrested' and still tiredMy mom said you only sleep for a few minutes each night, is this true?
That is untrue of the majority of people. Most people sleep for more than a few minutes a night.
A young adult spends about a quarter of the night in REM (dream) sleep. It is broken up into several parts so you really don't dream for very long at once.
haha!
You mean you only dream a few minutes? You dream when you're in REM sleep and a typical dream lasts only seconds though it seems like it lasts hours.
yes she is right. you go through a sleep cycle all night long. i think it is about 1 1/2 hours long. you have 4 stages and then REM sleep. it is only in REM sleep that you dream. you have to go through the whole cycle in order for your body to properly rest. for instance if you continue to wake someone up every thirty minutes, not allowing them to go through a complete cycle and get through REM stage, it can mess with their body and it will be worse than if they did not sleep at all.
