Is it true that when ducks/geese hatch, the first thing they see they thinks it their mom and follow it around?

And do they follow that person around just when they're babies. Or are the attached to that person for the rest of their life?Is it true that when ducks/geese hatch, the first thing they see they thinks it their mom and follow it around?
They will follow it until they're mature and realized it was somebody else.Is it true that when ducks/geese hatch, the first thing they see they thinks it their mom and follow it around?
That's called imprint learning. They, along with many other species, will follow around the first moving object they see for the first years of their life. Konrad Lorenz conducted an experiment in which he was the first moving thing present when baby ducks were hatched and they followed him.
true, its called imprinting. dont think its a good idea to do it. it means you'd have to get special food and feed it every four hours for a few weeks, you'd have to clean up after it and kiss social life goodbye due to feedings.

and they'll only think you're its mum till when its big enough to go off on its own.
